As immunizations against COVID-19 move ahead, now doctors want to see if the vaccines are safe and effective for children. That means they need parents willing to let their kids volunteer.

Dr. Robert Jeanfreau with Metairie-based MedPharmics says researchers have been working their way down through the age groups.

"We just completed the adolescents group, and now we're starting the six months to up to 12 years of age," he told WWL-TV.

Dr.  Jeanfreau  says volunteers should be healthy, at least as far as their immune systems go.

He says even though it may seem like children aren't at great risk from the disease, having all age groups eligible for immunization will help end the pandemic faster.

"Even though they may not have a lot of problems with infection, it goes a long way toward protecting the population in general," the doctor explained.

If you are interested in signing up your child for the vaccine trials, contact MedPharmics at (504) 457-2721 or click here to visit their website.
