The rising costs of homeowners and auto insurance in Louisiana has voters hopping mad, and there could be consequences if reforms lawmakers are currently working on don't pan out.

Pollster Ron Faucheux says the numbers don't lie: voters are furious over the cost of their insurance.

"Insurance was the biggest problems the politicians in Baton Rouge have," said Faucheux, but he said it hardly seemed to come up among candidates in the last election cycle.

Despite special sessions on crime and rewriting the state's constitution, no special effort has been made on the insurance crisis. Faucheux says this may be an issue voters remember.

"If something can't be done about this, the insurance issue could bring a lot of incumbents in state government down in the next election," Faucheux said.

And whatever lawmakers pass, Faucheux said it better work.

"They're going to have to pass something, but the bottom line is, are they going to be effective?" said Faucheux.

And if it's not effective, Faucheux said voters will remember that, even if the next state election is not until the fall of 2027.
