Thibodaux’s residents will continue to pay a property tax to pay for the city’s volunteer fire department’s operations.
Eighty-eight percent of the 983 Thibodaux voters who cast ballots on Saturday approved a measure to renew the five-mill tax, which is not set to expire until 2027. The renewal will allow city officials to collect that tax through 2036.
According to ballot proposition’s language, the tax is expected to generate approximately $645,000 annually to pay for the maintenance of the volunteer fire department’s facilities, vehicles, and equipment and for the acquisition of any new infrastructure the department needs.
