A Bridge City man is arrested for allegedly using his cellphone to secretly record men while they used the public restroom at retail stores in Jefferson Parish.
As the Times Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate reports, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Capt. Jason Rivarde says 42-year-old John Coleman was arrested and charged with two counts of video voyeurism.
Rivarde says the sheriff’s office began investigating Coleman back in July when deputies were called about a complaint at a store in the 5100 block of Citrus Boulevard in Elmwood.
An employee at the store told deputies he was sitting in one of the stalls when he noticed someone was using a cell phone to record video through the space between the stall door and the wall, according to Rivarde.
Authorities say the employee confronted the man and chased out the store. The employee managed to grab the cell phone from the man, deleted the video of himself, and turned the phone over to deputies.
Through the investigation, deputies identified Coleman as the owner of the cell phone and took him into custody on December 9.
Rivarde says deputies seized hundreds of images and videos from more than a dozen cell phones at Coleman’s Bridge City home.
The investigation is ongoing. The next day, Coleman was released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on a $20,000 bond.
