Forget Christmas: would you believe Mardi Gras is nine weeks from today? Which means parade season will be starting even sooner, and the folks at Mardi Gras World are looking for drivers.
"We're always looking to add to the great team of drivers that we have," said Kern Studios President and CEO Barry Kern.
Kern says there's not a tractor driver shortage, but they are looking for new faces to make sure there are drivers available, should someone be out sick, or as other drivers retire or move on.
"We need to bring in fresh guys to do this because Mardi Gras' not showing any signs of getting smaller, it just continues to grow," Kern explained.
So this Saturday, Kern Studios is holding tractor driver training classes at 4100 Michoud Blvd.
"We've got the tractors, we've got instructors, and you've got applications that will be available out there," said Kern. "You get a chance to drive the tractors, and if we see that you can drive the tractors themselves well, then we actually have floats, with nobody on them, that you hook up to and you get to drive through some different turns and things."
Applicants should already have a valid chauffeur's's license, and show up at 4100 Michoud Blvd. by 8 a.m. Saturday.
