We get a peak at how the campaign for mayor of New Orleans is going today when campaign finance statements are filed.
So what can we learn from a candidate's campaign cash reporting? Political analyst John Couvillon says it is mostly of interest to insiders, but there is a reason insiders can matter.
"'Insider baseball' is what fuels donor psychology. It could provide oxygen or deprive oxygen for the candidates," said Couvillon. "And you do have political insiders who like to pore over those results, to try to divine who has money, who does not, who's contributing to whom and so forth."
Couvillon says if there's a candidate with a cash advantage, more donor cash could follow.
Helena Moreno has had a huge advantage in previous reports.
You could see some kind of, like, herd mentality from insiders after they see the finance reports, depending on what the cash-on-hand numbers are for either Duplessis or Thomas or Moreno going into the final weeks," he said.
