Certain public schools in Orleans Parish come a step closer to getting a new name.
NOLA Public Schools’ Facility Renaming Committee will meet virtually to deliberate and take a final vote on the school name recommendations it will send to Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. for his review and approval.
The Orleans Parish School Board opposed keeping the names of school facilities, which are named after historic people found to be either slave owners, Confederate officials, or segregation supporters. The OPSB set forth a process to identify these specific schools and to create a list of alternative names for those schools.

A virtual public meeting on the final name list will be today at 4:00 p.m.
