In the UNO Quality of Life poll, there's a stark difference in how New Orleans residents view their life quality and public officials versus Jefferson Parish.
"It's a general sense of contentment in the parish," said UNO pollster Ed Chervenak. "It's a suburban parish, it's a wealthier parish, they're much more satisfied with what's going on."
Chervenak said it's much different than what they find in New Orleans, "where people are more likely to respond and tell us what the problems are."
Jefferson Parish Council Chairman Scott Walker says that doesn't mean there aren't problems that need to be handled. He says the recent downpour from Hurricane Francine showed drainage is always an issue for Jefferson residents.
"And the parish is doing a lot to make sure that we have the proper capacity in our pumps and to make sure that our streets drain properly", said Walker.
What is the biggest problem facing your community?
In New Orleans, respondents most often said crime (27%). with streets / infrastructure second (19%).
In Jefferson Parish, the top problem is not crime, infrastructure or flooding. The highest number of respondents said other or don't know (29%).
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has only a 33% approval rating. The City Council has only a 48% approval.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng (73%), Sheriff Joe Lopinto (73%) and the Jefferson Parish Council (63%) continue to enjoy high approval ratings.
