The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic incident that happened Friday evening in New Orleans East.
Police were notified shortly after 5:30 p.m. of the crash in the 6900 block of Downman Rd.
"Upon arrival and investigation, it was determined that a Hyundai Sonata driven by adult female was traveling southbound on Downman Road near the intersection with Lewis Road when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler turning from Lewis Road onto the northbound lanes of Downman Road," said NOPD.
The Hyundai's driver died on the scene. According to police, the driver of the 18-wheeler remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
