While on the campaign trail this past week, former President Donald Trump said that he wanted to purchase a Glock handgun with his face on it. The only problem is he can’t.
In a now-deleted video posted to X by a Trump spokesperson, the president can be seen interacting with a man showing him a handgun with his face on it.
Trump can be heard in the video saying multiple times, “I want to buy one,” as he poses for photos with the man.
However, there is just one problem with Trump’s desire to purchase the handgun: it’s illegal.
According to federal law, people who are under a felony indictment are unable to purchase firearms, meaning despite Trump wanting to buy the weapon, he legally couldn’t.
The video goes on to show Trump posing for a photo with the man who is holding the firearm while Trump gives the thumbs up and smiles. In another photo, Trump can be seen holding the gun as he poses for a photo.
The interactions took place at a gun store in Summerville, South Carolina, while Trump was making a campaign stop.
On social media, several people made jokes about the video, with some pointing out that even if it were legal for the president to buy a firearm, he wouldn’t be able to walk out with it due to background check laws.
“It takes 24 hours to get results back on a background check, but he walks in to buy a Glock and walk out,” one person said.
According to a report from USA Today, the former president left the store empty-handed, inevitably not purchasing the firearm.
Several media outlets have reached out to Trump’s team requesting a comment on the handgun, but they have not responded.
