Fox News correspondent Benjamin Hall suffered massive injuries during a Russian attack in Kyiv, Ukraine on March 14 that killed two of his co-workers, and provided updates about the devastating incident on Thursday in two since deleted tweets.
The 39-year-old Hall, a British journalist, survived the attack when his vehicle was hit by Russian shelling. His two colleagues, Ukrainian producer Oleksandra Kuvshynova, 24, and Irish cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski, 55, were both killed.
"Its been over three weeks since the attack in Ukraine and I wanted to start sharing it all," Hall tweeted, according to The Washington Post. "But first I need to pay tribute to my colleagues Pierre and Sasha who didn’t make it that day. Pierre and I traveled the world together, working was his joy and his joy was infectious. RIP."
Hall went on to say that he lost half a leg, a foot, and his left eye is no longer working. He tweeted a picture, that was later deleted, of himself covered in bandages with a patch over his left eye.
"To sum it up, I’ve lost half a leg on one side and a foot on the other," Hall said. "One hand is being put together, one eye is no longer working, and my hearing is pretty blown … but all in all I feel pretty damn lucky to be here."
After the incident, Fox News chief executive Suzanne Scott sent a memo to employees saying that Hall was being transferred "from Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany to Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), located at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas."
She added that he "remains in good spirits despite everything he has endured."
Kuvshynova had been a consultant for Fox News, helping them "navigate Kyiv and the surrounding area while gathering information and speaking with sources," according to The Guardian.
Zakrzewski's funeral was held on March 29 in Foxrock, Dublin, according to The Guardian. He was a war-zone photographer with experience in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, and had been in Ukraine since February. The Washington Post added that "several New York-based Fox News executives" attended the funeral.
