Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman tells KDKA Radio President-elect Donald Trump was “very gracious” after meeting with him at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend.
Full interview with Senator John Fetterman
Fetterman told host Marty Griffin he met with the soon-to-be president over the past weekend in a “closed-door” meeting that lasted over an hour.
“It wasn’t anything other than just an honest conversation and I can only see good things emerging from that,” said Fetterman.
“Everybody was lovely, said Fetterman about Trump’s staff at Mar-a-Lago. “They were just laid back.”
While he said he can’t get into the specifics of the meeting, Fetterman said he isn’t just a Senator for the Democrats of Pennsylvania. He represents all Pennsylvanians, including Republicans.
Some of the topics discussed were the proposed sale of U.S. Steel to Nippon, getting “wrongfully detained” Oakmont teacher Marc Fogel released from Russia and more.
“I know and I love a lot of people that have different political views than I do but, we’ve always got alone and I grew up in a very conservative part of Pennsylvania, that’s York County,” said Fetterman.
He acknowledges that Democrats are now in the minority in both the Senate and House. “Here in D.C., if you want to get anything done, you really got to find a way to get something done,” said Fetterman.
To fellow Democrats that disagree that he should not have met Trump, he says they can have their own opinion, but he is going to “work with the other side” to get things done.
Fetterman says that he obviously doesn’t agree with Trump on a lot of topics, but will work with him to get things done for Pennsylvania.
