Passengers aboard Delta Airlines flight 2432 from Atlanta, Ga., to New Orleans, La., Wednesday witnessed a bloody, violent scene before the plane touched down.

According to WVUE, 39-year-old unruly passenger Nelson Montgomery was bleeding profusely from his neck when a fellow passenger was called to provide medical assistance.

This witness – who the outlet said wished to remain anonymous – saw Montgomery pull a flight attendant into a chokehold and hold what appeared to be a shard of broken glass up to her neck. He then threatened to cut off her head if anyone got near.

Per WWL TV, this incident occurred at around 4 p.m.

Eventually, eight other passengers were able to subdue Montgomery.
Upon landing, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reportedly arrested him at Armstrong International Airport and charged him with aggravated battery, simple battery and disturbing the peace. Audacy has reached out to the law enforcement agency for confirmation.

According to WVUE, deputies said Montgomery also received medical treatment. Deputies said that two cuts were treated at the scene and that the flight attendant had minor injuries as well.

“Delta flight 2432 operating from Atlanta to New Orleans was met by law enforcement personnel upon landing following a reported customer issue onboard,” said a statement Delta provided to WVUE. “Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior on our aircraft and in our airports. Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our people and our customers.”

This is the agency’s third airport arrest this week, said the WVUE report. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, unruly passenger reports hit a record high in 2021 at nearly 6,000. Though reports were down from this last year, they were still higher than usual at around 2,500. There have been more than 1,000 reports so far this year.

In June, Audacy reported on a man aboard another Delta flight who had to be restrained by 12 other passengers and in April, there was a report about a flight that had to return home three hours into its journey due to an unruly passenger. Of course, Audacy also reported on the viral video of the woman who said her fellow passenger was “not real” while aboard an American Airlines flight.
