California Governor Gavin Newsom says he has no plans to run for president in 2024.

Newsome told Politico that he's not going to challenge President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination -- saying instead that he's "all in" on Biden's reelection campaign.

He said he even called the president himself on Election Day to tell him "We have your back."

Newsom, who has been rumored as a possible presidential candidate amid his criticism of the Democratic Party's lack of leadership, added that he made his intentions clear to the entire administration.

"I've told everyone in the White House, from the chief of staff to the first lady," Newsome said of being a firm Biden supporter.

Biden hasn't officially made an announcement about running for reelection, but he has repeatedly indicated he plans to make another presidential bid.

Politico pointed out that Newsom seems to recognize that as long as Donald Trump looms as the potential Republican nominee in 2024, Democrats will offer Biden a wide berth. Trump announced his third bid for the White House a week after the midterm elections, becoming the first candidate to enter the race.

"[Biden] not only beat Trump once, I think he can beat him again," Newsom said. "I hope he runs, I'll enthusiastically support him."

Even if Biden doesn't seek reelection, Newsom isn't interested in 2024. "The answer is no," he said

However, the governor wouldn't rule out a presidential run in 2028.

Newsom's remarks on the presidential election come after he won reelection in California's gubernatorial race following a failed recall attempt last year.
