Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appears to be taking aim at Disney once again, as he floated the idea of building a prison or possibly a different amusement park next to land owned by the company.

DeSantis made his comments while speaking at a news conference on Monday, noting that he was not actively considering it, but it was a possibility.

“If you look at this whole special district, Walt Disney Corporation obviously owns a lot of it, but the district owns other land,” he said at the press conference. “Now people are like, what should we do with this land? People have said: Maybe create a state park. Maybe try to do more amusement parks. Someone even said maybe you need another state prison. Who knows?”

The special district DeSantis referred to has been a primary source of contention between the two parties as the Florida Republican signed a bill this year, dissolving the private government that oversaw Walt Disney World in the state.

The move came after the company made comments about his education plan, which looks to limit the instruction of gender identity and sexuality in public schools.

After signing the bill, Disney-friendly members of the board that govern the district approved an agreement with the company, giving it developmental authority over its theme park, and stripping the DeSantis-handpicked board members from being able to oversee the park’s development.

The move from Disney resulted in DeSantis’s comments Monday, and he says the possibilities of what he could do with the state-owned land would be analyzed moving forward.

“I just think that the possibilities are endless,” he said. “So that is now going to be analyzed to see what would make the most sense. And that wasn’t necessarily even on the radar.”
