ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- An Ypsilanti woman has been charged under Michigan's "Super Drunk Laws," after she drove a car off the road in Ann Arbor, early Friday, creating a shocking scene.
Ann Arbor Police released photos of the car which was "vertical in the air" when officers arrived at at Lincoln Ave and Wells St. to investigate a reported single-vehicle crash, at around 3:40 a.m.
Police said an investigation found that the 24-year-old woman was driving the car, with three female passengers on board, when she struck a guide wire attached to a pole and landed on a street sign.
All four of the women were outside the car when officers arrived.
Remarkably, police said no one was injured.
The driver was arrested for operating with blood alcohol content of .17% or more.
"This is another reminder of the dangers of driving drunk. It was very fortunate there were no serious injuries in this incident," the Ann Arbor PD said, in a social media post. "Always plan for a sober ride home -- NEVER drive buzzed or drunk."
Under Michigan's "Super Drunk Laws," drivers with a BAC more than twice the state's legal limit of .08% face stiffer penalties, including up to 180 days in jail if convicted.
The woman's name was not immediately released.
