Mtula Payton, 27, was taken into custody Saturday night following a weeks-long search, the Sacramento Police Department said in a statement. Based on recovered evidence, investigators believe Payton was one of the alleged gang members who opened fire in downtown Sacramento on April 3.

Six people were shot and killed on K Street during the mass shooting, while 12 others were injured.

Payton and brothers Smiley Martin and Dandrae Martin have been charged with murder as well as weapons offenses in connection with three of the deaths, Johntaya Alexander, Yamile Martinez-Andrade and Melinda Davis. However, they were not charged in the deaths of Devazia Turner, Sergio Harris and Joshua Hoye-Lucchesi — three other alleged gang members.

In early May, after searching for Payton throughout April, detectives discovered that he was living at an apartment complex in Las Vegas. On May 28, Las Vegas officers arrested Payton in the 1300 Block of East Hacienda Avenue.

Payton will be booked into a custodial facility in Nevada and later transported to Sacramento where he will be booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail.

According to authorities, Payton is believed to be a member of G-Mobb, a rival gang to the 29th Street Crips and Garden Blocc Crips which the Martin brothers are allegedly part of.
