Waffle House has officially removed the 50‑cent per‑egg surcharge it introduced in February amid soaring egg prices caused by a widespread avian flu outbreak.
On its X (formerly Twitter) feed, the Georgia‑based chain announced, “Egg‑cellent news…as of June 2, the egg surcharge is officially off the menu. Thanks for understanding!”
The surcharge was implemented after bird flu-related shortages led egg prices to skyrocket—reaching over $4 per dozen in late 2024 and roughly $6.23 at their peak in March.
Industry and USDA reports show prices have since dropped by more than 25%, prompting Waffle House and other chains to ease the extra fee as supply and costs normalize.
