It's been nearly a month since the partial building collapse that killed 97 people in Surfside, Florida. Today, the site of the devastating collapse looks unrecognizable -- an empty pit where hundreds of people once lived.
Senator Jason Pizzo tweeted photos of the site Tuesday night that show all the rubble has been removed.
More than 26 million pounds of debris have been removed from the site since the 12-story Champlain Towers South building partially collapsed on June 24. Rubble considered key evidence is being stored in a Miami-area warehouse, with the rest in nearby vacant lots.
The rubble is being preserved as possible evidence for lawsuits and for other experts to review, according to the Associated Press.
Although the rubble has been removed, the search and recovery effort continues. A county spokesperson told the Miami Herald that first responders will continue to conduct searches of the debris at the off-site locations to look for any additional remains to bring closure to families. That recovery work could go on for at least another month.
All but two of the 97 victims found in the debris have been identified.
