"This evening the suspect, Jonathan Lee Richardson... has turned himself into the Covington Police Department," Sergeant Edwin Masters said in an email. "(He) will be charged with LRS 14:30.1, Second Degree Murder."

He also faces felon in possession of a firearm after allegedly carrying a concealed weapon.

It follows a Friday night homicide.

"On Friday, October 2, 2020, at approximately 8:50 PM, The Covington Police Department responded to reports of shots being fired in the area of North Columbia Street and West 33rd Avenue."

Masters says that when officers got to the scene, they found vehicles damaged in a shooting.

"While officers were on the scene of the shooting, there were no reports of anyone being injured. Later in the night, it was discovered that a black male subject suffered a gunshot wound during the shooting. After the shooting, the victim went to his girlfriend’s house in Mandeville, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the shooting in Covington."

Investigators linked the murder to Richardson.
