HOUSTON (Sports Radio 610) - The Deshaun Watson trade saga took another interesting turn on Thursday, with a report surfacing that Watson's exit from the Houston Texans seems to be all but inevitable.
That report, which came from NFL insider Jim Trotter, detailed a conversation between Trotter and new Texans head coach David Culley, indicating Culley's lack of confidence in the young star suiting up at NRG Stadium next season.
"Based on the conversation (with Culley), I firmly believe Deshaun Watson will be traded," Trotter tweeted on Thursday. "Culley didn’t explicitly say that, but when using terms like on the roster “right now” & “we want guys who are all in”—writing is on the wall."
To be fair, Culley still sees Watson as the Texans' starting quarterback and franchise player for now -- at least until a deal is reached to send him elsewhere.
"He is our starting quarterback right now," Culley told Trotter in the interview. "He is our starting quarterback. Things happen between now and then. We'll see what happens."
Watson of course has been at the forefront of the NFL trade rumor mill for some time now, with destinations such as the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, and the New York Jets, among others, being discussed for the 25-year old.
Despite that, Texans' decision-makers have insisted that there are no plans to trade Watson now, or in the future, even with the myriad of problems plaguing the relationship between the franchise and its star quarterback.
“Zero interest in trading the player,” Texans GM Nick Caserio said in January.
“There is no timeline because we’re not trading him,” Caserio continued.
That may be the stance the Texans' are taking publicly, but if Culley's demeanor is any sort of indication, it may only be a matter of time before DeShaun Watson is wearing a different uniform.
