Bret Michaels is headlining the Uncle Sam Jam 2023 this Monday, July 3 at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, LA, just outside of New Orleans, where I met Bret a few years back at a mutual friend’s wedding reception. We talked and connected to the point where we wanted to continue hanging out after everyone else had gone home.
Bret and I went to the French Quarter and had a memorable night. Today, on my talk show, Bret and I relived a few memories from that night - though not all that happened that night is suitable for sharing - and I talked about the person I got to know.
Beyond the status of being an iconic rock star - Bret Michaels' intellect and his compassion for people make him a very special person with a goal to bring people together, and in the divided world in which we live - that is a blessing.
One of the most outstanding things about Bret is his ability to keep fighting and never give up on reaching his goals. As a young band, Poison was turned down by countless record companies that blatantly said they didn't hear any hit value in some of their songs that later became blockbuster hits. In the interview, Bret talks about his never-give-up attitude. His ability to overcome challenges began when he spent several weeks in the hospital at the age of 6 and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes - which remains a challenge for him to this day.
We talked about the meaningful stories behind "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Something To Believe In," and I mentioned how those songs represented a thoughtful and maturing rocker.
And Bret even had a great answer when I asked him to tell me a good groupie story!
My interview with Bret gave a lot of his fans an opportunity to get to know the Bret Michaels that lives beyond the stage - a Bret Michaels that continues to try to make the world a better place through his music.
