Gas prices are up a tick with the statewide average price for gallon of regular gas now toppinig out at $2.82 a gallon.

That' up two cents from a day earlier and up seven cents from a week ago.

Triple-A Fuel Analyst Don Redman says the increases are linked to the price of crude.

He says they are up, "About five dollars from a month ago, selling now for about $77 and $78 dollars a barrell versus in December is was selling for about $72 a barrell.

REdman says as we edged toward spring, which historically begins sooner in the Gulf South than the rest of the nation, he says we usually see an increase in gas prices as regineries transition to summr-grade gasoline and demand goes up.

He says, "Right now demand is off a little bit. We have a very, very health inventory of crude oil which may actually help as we get into the heart of the driving season, the spring and the summer."

Redman notes that it is quick to point out the oil market is also reactionary to world news and depending on the U.S, response to three servicemen being killed in a drone attack in Jordan, prices could see an impact as a result.
