The New Orleans Saints informed season ticket holders today that New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has denied the team's request to host fans at the Superdome for Monday night's football game against the Chargers.
The Saints said they "expect to host fans" at the next home game on October 25th.
Walt Leger with New Orleans and Company, the city's lead tourism agency, told WWL that other NFL cities are hosting fans with success.
"My hope is that we will look at the data that is associated with those events and try to follow best practices here that we see on other places."
Leger said that on a pre-pandemic Saint game day, fans spent about $150 million dollars in the local hospitality industry.
"It's important to the 35,000 to 40,000 employees of our hospitality industry, that they get back to work," Leger insisted.
He said that money is important to businesses and the community.
