Experts say a tropical depression off the coast of South Carolina is expected to strengthen before it makes its way to land, dropping large amounts of rain along the Georgia and South Carolina coastlines. This has led to tropical storm warnings being put in place.
According to forecasters, the storm could reach the Georgia and South Carolina coasts as early as Monday night. Some coastal areas might see upwards of 1 to 3 inches of rain.
The watch stretches from Edisto Beach, South Carolina, northeastward to South Santee River, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The tropical depression was close to 145 miles east-southeast of Beaufort, South Carolina, late Monday morning, the hurricane center said, ABC News reported.
The winds sustained themselves near 35 mph with higher gusts throughout the area. Tropical-storm-force winds are expected to be felt along the South Carolina coast as early as Monday afternoon, according to the hurricane center said.
A U.S. Air Force Reserve aircraft will investigate the system Monday evening, giving more data to forecasters.
