MAGA supporters and many Republicans are condemning the guilty verdict of Donald Trump and their rhetoric includes the fear factor that the justice system can no longer be trusted by the American people. Convicted felon, Donald Trump warned that “this could happen to anyone.”
No one should be surprised by the politically-charged rhetoric spilling from MAGA supporters and many Republicans, who have hitched their hopes of winning the White House on Donald Trump. There has also been a lot of talk about a two-tiered justice system.
First of all, there is no reason to condemn our justice system because some people disagree with the verdict. The condemnation of our justice system is the result of the helpless frustration felt by many who did not believe it was conceivable that Trump would be found guilty on all 34 felony counts by every juror, even the juror that said their main news source was Trump’s own Truth Social. That juror found Trump guilty.
Disagreeing with the verdict of a high-profile trial is nothing new. Many Americans disagreed with the not-guilty verdict in the O.J. Simpson case. There was widespread disagreement over the not-guilty verdict in the Casey Anthony case and the not-guilty verdict in the 2nd degree murder trial of George Zimmerman charged in the killing of a young Black male, Trayvon Martin, was extremely controversial and many Americans disagreed with that verdict. Disagreeing with verdicts is not new and there’s no reason to believe that the disagreement over the guilty verdict in the Trump trial is reason to lose faith in our justice system.
The points that Donald Trump and supporters are making about the “rigged” trial and the crooked judge fail to acknowledge that 12 jurors, not the judge, rendered the guilty verdict and the claims made by Trump and those echoing his claims are not based in the facts about the fact. They are conjured up complaints to somehow explain what they believe is the unexplainable – the guilty verdict.
The charges that we now have a two-tiered system of justice fail to recognize that complaints about a two-tiered system of justice are not new. For decades, African-Americans have complained about a two-tiered system of justice based on race, to which many who are complaining today totally dismiss as false claims. We have had a two-tiered system of justice regarding wealth and status when it comes to some trials. So, the complaints that the Trump trial is a new turn for our system of justice is just another attempt to explain what so many Americans do not want to believe – that their hero was caught taking illegal action regarding legal papers and the transfer of money.
For those who want to challenge and say, “If the trial was not rigged – prove it.” That’s ridiculous because there is no evidence the trial was rigged. It would be like pointing the finger at someone you think committed a crime and saying that if he didn’t commit the crime – prove it. How can you prove someone didn’t commit a crime if there is zero evidence that they committed a crime?
Contrary to the repeated lie that the Biden Administration was behind the trial cannot be proven by any facts, but that doesn’t stop Trump’s most loyal supporters from believing that it was all Biden. Even Fox News host Shannon Bream corrected one of Trump’s attorney saying that she was wrong in saying Biden was involved. That caused Trump to bash Shannon Bream.
I’m more surprised that every juror found Trump guilty of all 34 felony counts than I am at the reaction from Trump and his followers. Trump’s followers are like a cult and they will excuse what they would never excuse a Democrat for doing. They are conditioned to ignore the truth in favor of rhetoric that justifies Trump’s actions.
Brazen politicians have always been targets and Donald Trump is not alone in this category. The mistake Trump apparently made was to believe that he could get away with breaking the law. Trump got caught. I’m sure other politicians have made similar mistakes, but for whatever reason did not get caught.
The fact remains that Donald Trump was found guilty by every juror – who were a collection of 12 individuals who agreed to participate in their civic duty to sit on the jury. Any complaints about the guilty verdict of Trump should be directed to them – not the judge – not the attorneys – and not Biden.
