Hurricane Ida continues to lose strength as it has less water to sustain its destructive power. As of 8 p.m. this evening, its maximum sustained winds have decreased to 115 miles per hour. That is a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffire-Simpson scale.
The storm is also moving much slower, with its forward movement down to nine miles per hour. Its center was located about 30 miles west of New Orleans as it moves northwest.
