The gym at Terrytown Playground in Jefferson Parish is open as a shelter for people seeking a sturdier building amid storms that are forecast to develop Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the region through 7 p.m. and the Storm Prediction Center says the region is at a risk level of four out of five for severe weather.
"The risk for severe weather today is quite high. The storms today can bring us damaging winds and tornadoes and hail," said WWL-TV meteorologist Alexa Trischler.
