Tropical Storm Bertha is struggling to stay together as it approaches the Louisiana coast. A ridge of high pressure, dry air, and wind shear are all doing their part to keep Bertha disorganized and to push the storm's heaviest rains out to sea.
Even though the bulk of Bertha's thunderstorms will remain in the Gulf of Mexico, we will experience breezy conditions throughout Wednesday in Thursday and the occasional shower and/or thunderstorm. Forecast models show Bertha dropping only one to two inches of rain on the Southshore.
Despite the windier conditions, the New Orleans metro as well as the vast majority of Louisiana and western Mississippi are under an extreme heat warning, as heat indices are expected to hit the 115° mark. Expect the National Weather Service to post similar warnings over the next few days, as daily highs will approach 95° every day for the next week.
