The National Hurricane Center says we now have our first named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Tropical Storm Alberto formed this morning.
"Alberto is a large tropical storm, with tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 415 miles," the NHC advised.
Louisiana will feel some of those winds, and some rain.
"Texas will see most of the rain today, but a few showers remain possible for Southeast Louisiana. It will be warm and breezy," WWL TV Meteorologist Payton Malone explained. "Winds are still blowing out of the east with gusts over 30 mph at times. These stronger winds will help pile up water for east facing shores. Coastal flooding will be most prominent through the early afternoon."
Meanwhile flooding is a big concern closer to Alberto's center.
"Tropical Storm Alberto is expected to produce rainfall totals of 5 to 10 inches across northeast Mexico into South Texas. Maximum totals around 20 inches are possible," the Hurricane Center warns.
