Elton John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour stopped this weekend at Rosemont's Allstate Arena for two shows (February 15 and 16). Taking the stage shortly after 8pm on Friday, the band got things rolling quickly; opening the show with those iconic chords from "Bennie and the Jets". What followed was a slew of Elton's biggest hits and his own personal favorites. Beyond classics like "Tiny Dancer" and "Rocket Man", highlights included an extended jam on "Levon" and a heartfelt rendition of "Your Song". The finality of the tour and these last Chicago-area shows clearly weighed heavily on John, who stopped several times between songs to revel in the applause and repeatedly thank the audience for supporting him throughout the decades.
Appropriately, the band closed the evening with "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", giving the faithful one last chance to sing along.
