Adele makes her return to Saturday Night Live this weekend, except this time pulling hosting duties for the iconic variety show.
The “Someone Like You” singer cut a few promos for the show with SNL mainstay Kate McKinnon and Saturday’s musical guest H.E.R. The masked trio stood stark in front of the camera when McKinnon did her best British accent. “Right, so tune in. It’s fit to wicked,” she blurted out with hand gestures and all. Adele wasn’t ready to let that one go.
“Oh, my God. Don’t worry, girlfriend,” the singer retorted with a heavy southern American accent. It was a surprise to hear the GRAMMY winner divert from her usual cockney tongue to the “stereotypical” American accent. Makes you think that’s what most people around the world assume Americans sound like.
She went right back to her UK vernacular for an Instagram teaser post ahead of Saturday night. Adele posted a corkboard image with an exuberant caption reading, “Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified!” She also touched on the timing of her appearance. “Itll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election...” she reflected.
“Which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no!”
