EMMA MAC’s HOLIDAY FAVORITES

Sufjan Stevens - “Hey Guys! It’s Christmas Time!”
The best Christmas rock song ever, sorry Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

The Staples Singers “The Last Month of the Year” –
Some gospel for those who can’t make it to church this year.

Augie Rios – “Dónde Está Santa Claus”
A vintage classic from 1958 performed by Augie Rios who was only 12 years old at the time.

The Head and the Heart – “What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?”
Charity Rose Thielen’s riff on the “maybe I’m crazy” lyric gives this classic an ethereal, unpredictable edge.

Vince Guaraldi Trio – “Christmas Time Is Here – Vocal”
One of the few instances a children’s choir doesn’t come off as creepy – and even makes this old grinch tear up a little.

Guster – “Carol Of The Meows”
This song is just Guster meowing to Carol of the Bells. It’s a masterpiece.

Andrew Bird – “Auld Lang Syne”
No one does it better.

The Raveonettes – “The Christmas Song”
A romantic, surf rock treat from the Danish indie rock duo.

Y La Bamba – “Señor Santa”
Y La Bamba’s take on “Mister Santa,” which is a take on “Mister Sandman.”

Eartha Kitt – “Santa Baby”
A “sable” is a fur coat, FYI.

Lydia Liza, Josiah Lemanski – “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”
A modern, funny take on the classic, this time with consent.

The Eels – “Everything’s Gonna Be Cool This Christmas”
If anyone loves Christmas, it’s The Eels.

Otis Redding – “Merry Christmas Baby”
A Christmas staple. Feelin' mighty fine when you got music on your radio!

Sufjan Stevens –“Christmas Unicorn”
Sufjan makes the list and checks it twice. You haven’t experienced Christmas until you’ve seen it through the eyes of the Christmas Unicorn.
