Two people have died after a suspicious extra-alarm fire erupted early Wednesday in West Englewood, that also left several other people including at least two children, critically hurt, police and sources said.
The fire broke out around 1:50 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Paulina Street where nearly 200 Chicago Fire Department personnel responded, fire officials said.
Six people were rescued from the home and were taken to area hospitals all in critical condition, according to the fire department.
Two people have died, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. It was unclear immediately if they were among the six rescued. Autopsies are scheduled.
The cause of the fire was under investigation after an incendiary device was found, according to sources.
Chicago police responded to the fire but haven’t yet released any details.
