(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Two women and a juvenile accomplice are accused of stealing more than $40,000 worth of iPhones from a west suburban retail store.

Authorities say Alisa Velcu, 32, of Washington state, 47-year-old Mariana Iordache of Schaumburg and a juvenile entered a Verizon Wireless store on Army Trail Road on Tuesday afternoon and broke into a locked drawer. The trio allegedly stole 45 iPhones before fleeing the store.

Alerted to the theft, Bloomingdale police soon pulled over a vehicle with the three suspects, all of whom were taken into custody. Prosecutors say Iordache and the juvenile had burglary tools in their possession.

The phones the group allegedly stole were collectively valued at between $40,000 and $45,000.

Velcu and Iordache, both charged with felony burglary and theft, were ordered held on $100,000 bond during a Wednesday court appearance. The juvenile was ordered held until at least their next court appearance.

“The allegations that these three defendants entered the Verizon Wireless store and in broad daylight during business hours broke into a locked drawer and helped themselves to forty-five iPhones are alarming,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “The fact that within fifteen minutes all three defendants found themselves in police custody is a testament to the truly outstanding work of the Bloomingdale Police Department.”
