Aggressive driving enforcement in Indiana

Indiana State Police are teaming up with trucking companies today throughout the state.

Troopers are passengers in semis.

And they’re looking for reckless drivers.

They call it “Trooper in a Truck.”

Indiana State Police Sergeant John Perrine says, “the purpose is, we want you, as a driver, to be thinking every time you see a semi on the road, drive like there’s a trooper sitting in the passenger seat, because there just may be, he said in a video posted on social media.

“We’re actually doing this at several locations throughout the state today. The trooper is going to be riding in the semi and he’s going to be calling out aggressive drivers to other troopers standing by on exit ramps and overpasses, waiting to enforce those violations and we’re looking for the most egregious drivers.”

Perrine says they’ve had success with this in the past.

He notes that a fully loaded semi weighs 80 thousand pounds.

They need more room to stop.

And drivers following too closely can’t see what’s happening up ahead.

Interstates near Chicago - I-65 and 80-94 – are expected to be part of the effort.
