Chicago Alderman Matt Martin (47th) is mourning a ward volunteer who was hit by a car and killed on Irving Park Road Sunday evening.
Police said the incident happened on Irving Park Road at Hoyne Avenue around 5:15 p.m.
The 75 year-old-man was crossing Irving Park Road when an eastbound, 30-year-old driver hit him.
The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car received several citations.
In a statement, Martin said the man had just left an early vote rally, and he added that he knows how dangerous it can be to cross Irving Park Road on foot. Martin said he will continue to work for safer streets for pedestrians and bikers.
Before the pandemic, Martin said, the man was a regular volunteer in the 47th ward office and continued to help after the COVID-19 shutdowns.
