CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Public Schools’ inspector general has wrapped up an investigation into sexual misconduct at Marine Leadership Academy on the West Side and 13 individuals who have been either fired or are in the process of being fired.
CPS CEO Pedro Martinez said last month when the preliminary report was issued that “the behavior uncovered by this investigation represents a stunning betrayal of trust and colossal failure of judgement and character on the part for too many individuals.”
The IG found wrongdoing by the former principal, four teachers — two who are alleged to have engaged in sexual misconduct with students — three military instructors, four staff members and one volunteer.
The former principal, Erin Galfer, told the Chicago Tribune, through her attorney, she was “wrongly terminated.”
She contended CPS “long knew about the misconduct and did not take timely steps to protect the students.”
