CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The president of the board of the state’s fourth largest school district is going into the classroom but not as a visitor observing students and teachers.
Laura Donahue, who currently serves as board president of Indian Prairie School District 204, is a retired telecom industry executive but she said she wanted to draw attention to the big need the district has for bus drivers and substitute teachers.
“I’m doing this to help out and, hopefully, maybe it will inspire other people to fill out the paperwork to become a substitute in the district because we need your help,” Donahue told WBBM Newsradio.
Donahue will be limited to subbing 10 times at $100 a day unless she returns to the board to request an increase in days. But no matter what, she’d be limited to earning $2,000 or 20 days in the classroom.
Donahue said she’s not doing it for the money and is just to try to inspire others to become substitute teachers in District 204.
