CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — For the first time since it opened five months ago, Bally's Chicago casino hit the jackpot with its January gaming revenue.

The casino, located temporarily inside the Medinah Temple at 600 N. Wabash Ave., has been struggling to keep pace in a competitive market. Last month, though, it exceeded $10 million in gross gaming money generated — a 9% increase from December 2023.

Casino officials credited customers taking advantage of free parking and free shuttle service, as well as the creation of new VIP areas, for the strong month.

They added that Bally's Chicago was the only property in the state to show month-over-month revenue growth, despite the subzero weather in January.

Revenue growth was slower, though, between December and January than it was between November and December, when growth was 12%.

In January, writer Bob Reed told the WBBM Noon Business Hour that tax revenues from the casino were expected to fall well short of what the city was hoping for.
