Thursday night’s severe weather did not stay long but left lasting damage in west suburban Bartlett.
The suspected tornado spread vegetation, metal sheeting and other debris across the parking lot of the Brewster Creek Centre Mall at Route 59 and Stearns Road.
The destruction included pieces of the gas pumps from the BP station across the street.

Residents describe an eerie green or yellow-colored sky before winds kicked up at around 8pm.
Kathy Jachim was prepping for her son’s graduation party and went out to check on his car when she noticed a mature tree in her side yard snapped at the base.
She and other residents of Braintree Lane in the Bartlett Lake Estates subdivision were cleaning up from older trees that had cracked, snapped or were uprooted.
Most missed falling on homes and cars.
Tree removal crews were busy chipping trees while home repair company workers handed out business cards.
Despite the damage, village leaders say there have been no reports of injuries.
