Now that election season is here, make sure you’re not a candidate for scammers. Jay Elliott with the Better Business Bureau’s Tip-Off to the Rip-Off® on WBBM Newsradio has the details.

Tight deadlines and high emotions are key elements scammers use, and highly charged election campaigns provide the perfect opportunity to trick people into sending money or giving up personal information.

Be on the lookout for fake emails, text messages and phone calls claiming there’s something wrong with your voter registration. Don’t automatically click links or send money without knowing exactly who you’re dealing with.

To be safe, go directly to your favorite candidate’s website. If anything looks suspicious, don’t engage with it.

The same goes for online polls. If you can’t confirm they’re real, don’t participate. When it comes to scammers, the safest vote is no.
