Now that autumn is here – don’t fall for fall scams. Jay Elliott with the Better Business Bureau’s Tip-Off to the Rip-Off® on WBBM has some tips.

As the leaves begin to fall, scammers and substandard contractors are out in full force, looking to take advantage of homeowners in a rush to tackle seasonal projects like furnace checks, gutter cleanings, roof repairs, and more.

These scams consistently rank among the top ten, with a median loss of $1,800 per incident.

Watch out for high-pressure pitches, unsolicited emails, texts, and calls, and prices that seem too good to be true.

To protect yourself and your family, do your homework and research businesses before hiring them. Check references, and don’t be fooled by the cheapest price.
