(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Wait, what? Cole Kmet was seen taking turns as a long snapper at Bears training camp.
Kmet, of course, is the Notre Dame alum and second-round draft pick known for his tight end skills. But with Patrick Scales out, Kmet was subbed in recently. He snapped high a couple of times, but seemed to settle down.
“That just increases your value,” says Bears analyst Tom Thayer, who recalls serving as a long snapper in his NFL career. “I was excited to see Cole do it.”
Thayer, a center/guard, said his own long snapping efforts “weren’t pretty.”
“I was average, at best,” he said, laughing.
