(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The owner of a Chain O’Lakes boat rental place called the Boatyard has been arrested for criminal damage to property after she was accused of throwing a customer's cell phone into the lake.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said the owner of the Boatyard, 36-year-old Kristen Wooden, called authorities this past Saturday after folks who rented a boat had damaged it by hitting a railroad bridge.

When deputies arrived at the Boatyard, located west of Antioch on Lake Marie, Wooden was in a verbal fight with the occupants of the boat.

Officials said Wooden then snatched a cell phone from one of the occupants — who was recording the fight — and tossed the phone into Lake Marie.

Wooden was processed and released on bond.

Authorities later said the Boatyard later claimed that the renters left “liquor bottles, beer bottles, garbage and human waste” in the boat, but sheriff's deputies didn't see any of that.

The sheriff’s office added that the Boatyard also claimed that the boat would need to be “taken out of service due to its structural integrity being compromised.” The same boat, though, was rented out the following day, officials said.
