(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Recently released body camera video is providing a clearer picture of what happened in a deadly police chase in the western suburbs last week.
Plano Police officers responded to a home invasion on Sep. 27 in which it was learned later that 70-year-old Russell Novak had been killed. When officers arrived, a car was pulling out of the garage.
Video released by the Plano Police Department and Kendall County Sheriff’s Office also includes audio from Novak’s 911 call when he arrived home to find some guns missing. The call ends abruptly after loud sounds are heard and a neighbor reports hearing what sounded like gunshots.
Video shows officers following the vehicle that pulled out of the garage through Yorkville and Oswego before making a stop in Aurora.
That's when the video shows the suspect get out of the car and fire at police, who then shot and killed him.
The Illinois State Police (ISP) opened an investigation after officers shot and killed a driver following the nearly 15-mile chase.
