CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A boil water order has been issued for parts of the South Side.

The City made the announcement overnight, impacting buildings and homes in parts of Beverly, Morgan Park and Auburn Gresham.

But, for one business in Beverly, it’s business as usual. Lumes Pancake House staff members said they’ve never experienced a boil water order before, but it wasn’t stopping them from service.

Managers said they bought several cases of water bottles, which they’re serving on request , and will not be using ice. They also were boiling water for some of the food that requires water to mix with.

According to the owner, Lumes will be open for the rest of the day.

Tuesday evening, a leak on a high-pressure water main inside the Roseland Pumping station affected water pressure until 11 p.m. The water main has returned online and is fully pressurized, the mayor’s office said.

As a precaution, however, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Chicago Department of Water Management advised a boil order be in place for drinking and cooking water for the impacted areas.

The boil order is in effect for all buildings and homes located east of Sacramento Avenue, north of 119th Street, west of I-57, south of 87th Street, and southwest of Beverly Avenue.

The City urges residents to bring water to a full rolling boil for at least five minutes. Boiling should be done for drinking water, making ice cubes, washing foods, washing dishes, brushing teeth, or any other activity involving water consumption.

The City says water for laundry, watering lawns and taking showers do not require boiling.

Free bottled water is available at Ridge Park, located at 9625 S. Longwood Dr.

The boil order will be lifted once the water department testing confirms the water is safe to drink.
