(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new brewery in a south suburb honors a late hometown rapper.
Brian Wallace, the brother of Jarad Higgins who is also known as Juice WRLD, is now the head brewmaster at the Homewood Brewery on Dixie Highway in Homewood.
Juice WRLD graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School before making it big as a rapper. He died suddenly from an accidental overdose in late 2019.
He had spoken candidly about his struggle with drug addiction and depression, and the proceeds from a beer always on tap at the Homewood Brewery will go toward his mother Carmela’s charity organization Live Free 999.
Live Free 999 works to support organizations that provide “positive mental health treatments and alternatives to drug use.”
The Homewood Brewery is opening as a vibrant, creative, and welcoming space for community gathering, music, food and drinks. It’s also filled with artistic tributes to Juice WRLD.
Homewood Brewing Company will be open from 3-10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
