(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in Schaumburg say a band of burglars cut their way into a Woodfield Mall jewelry store — and walked out with more than $1 million in merchandise. Now, investigators are looking for clues that will lead them to the people behind a high-value heist.

It happened in the overnight hours of Aug. 1 at the Marquise Jewelers, officials said, with a group of at least six people involved in the burglary.

The individuals are believed to have cut their way into the jeweler by going through the drywall from an empty store next door. They also avoided being recorded by covering up one of the surveillance cameras, police said.

The heist went undetected until 9:30 a.m. the following morning, when a construction worker walked into the vacant unit and reported the drywall damage.

In all, the burglars walked out with more than $1 million in jewelry from the store.

Schaumburg police said detectives are “continuing to review surveillance footage from multiple sources and evidence” and promised to share more information as they’re able to.
