(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Is it a snack shack, maybe a restaurant, a bar, or is it a boat? Castaways Beach Club is all of those things and more. It is also in the shape of a big boat.

“And we really cater to many different types of people, whether you're coming on a weekend to, you know, have bottle service or party with friends, or whether you're a family, or just roaming the beach that you just want to grab a quick lunch,” Anthony Stefani, Castaways managing partner said.

There are cabanas and a DJ on the north facing bow of the boat as well as a more family friendly atmosphere, and a skyline view with table seating on the south facing stern.

The boat has been through rough waters since 2020, opening only for a few special engagements such as the air and water show last year, Stefani said.

However, with some upscale upgrades like the cabanas on deck, multiple bars, a dance floor, and a new paint job Stefani said it should be smooth sailing this beach season.

“For a while, it was an iconic red and blue that really stood out. We went with more of an upscale, modern look with shades of blue and white. So we're hoping it's a little more of a nautical feel to it.”

Stefani said nearly $3 million went into Castaways new look and feel, with more upgrades to come. Maybe even a pool?

“The pool is… I could just see the red tape on that. So, I'm gonna hold off on the pool for now,” Stefani said.

“But we always, you know, are gonna continue to look at what our options are on expanding our footprint.”

One thing that hasn’t changed is the dress code.

“You know, a lot of people are coming just right off the beach to have lunch. So really, yeah, we just want you comfortable in your flip flops and your bathing suits and t-shirts — whatever makes you comfortable.”
